Choose who owns the files and the exact case before sending anything. A receipt means the file was received; scanning and tax review follow separately.
Choose or create one client and case, then select their folder.
For a total folder, choose a default client and case only if you know them. Every discovered file group still needs its own explicit confirmation after you inspect the folder.
Choose and check the files
If this browser cannot choose a whole folder, choose multiple ordinary files. In a multi-client dropoff, these files form one unassigned group; you can move them to separate Staff groups in the final step.
No files selected.
Review each file group's owner
Use Move to group beside each file to separate case years or correct a folder grouping. Moving a file clears confirmation for both affected groups.
Confirm the client and case
Choose a folder above. File and folder names are hints only; they do not establish identity or tax year.
No client selected.
Create a client without Portal sign-in
Client details stay in this tab until you create the record. They are not saved as a draft.
Possible existing client
Review the search result above and choose the existing record if it is the same person or business.
Create a case for the selected client
Case details stay in this tab until you create the case. They are not saved as a draft.
Possible existing case
Review this client’s case choices above. A prior-year document may belong to a current-year case.
Record verified tax facts and service scope when available
The exact client and case are required for file ownership. Detailed tax facts may be completed later as Staff tasks. Do not guess from file or folder names.

Only included files with a confirmed client and case are sent. Excluded or held files stay on this computer. Server receipts appear below; scanning and review are separate.
Continue saved work
Batch receipts are saved on the server. Local files must be chosen again after this tab closes.
Saved batch list has not been checked in this tab.
Park a partial batch to work on another in this tab. In-progress transfers finish with their real receipts; no new transfer starts for the parked batch. When you return, check receipts and reselect any files whose bytes are no longer in this tab.
Clients in this batch
Receipt counts come from this saved batch. Review and missing counts use the last checked Staff intake queue.

Staff guide and recovery help
Step 1: choose the actual client and case for one-client work, or choose multi-client mode and an optional known default.
Step 2: choose a folder or ordinary files and review every exclusion. You can go back without losing the selection.
Step 3: confirm every file group's client and case, then use Confirm and upload. The same batch and item IDs are reused if a response is lost.
Check saved receipts before retrying unfinished files; a receipt is separate from scanning and review.
Open the case workbench for missing items and current next actions. A Tax Ready Packet or Drake preparation remains subject to its own checks.
If the browser was closed, reselect the original folder. Matching uses the fixed relative path, size and file hash. A different file with the same name cannot silently replace a saved item. Unsupported, empty, oversized and unreadable files need a supported export or Staff review.
No customer invitation, email, tax acceptance, signature or filing is triggered by a dropoff.
